The Women Breakthrough Award 2023 (up to 3,000 EUR) is now accepting nominations. The Women Breakthrough Award, which was established jointly by Falling Walls Female Science Talents and the Elsevier Foundation, honors three female scientists each year for their groundbreaking work in addition to their commitment to advancing gender equity and equality in the scientific community.
Women Breakthrough Award 2023 (up to 3,000 EUR)
They seek out female scientists working on a subject related to one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the Women Breakthrough Award. They are seeking outstanding scientists that support diversity and gender equality in science and conduct cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research in their fields of specialization.
Awards
- Category Innovation – 3,000 EUR
- The researcher takes a unique approach in her research to a particular gender-related problem in science.
- Category Gender Mainstreaming – 3,000 EUR
- The researcher aligns her research project’s design with standards similar to those established by the German Research Foundation or the European Research Council by incorporating gender equality.
- Category Empowerment – 3,000 EUR
- With her study or the layout of her research project, the researcher promotes the empowerment of women or other marginalized individuals in the area.

- Receive a travel grant to Berlin from November 7–10, 2023, to attend the Falling Walls Science Summit;
- A wider worldwide audience and greater visibility for you and your study;
- Offering special chances to network with world authorities in science, politics, business, and the media;

- Become an advocate for the idea of gender equality in science;

Nominators
- Universities and research institutions
- Companies with research labs
- Scientific foundations
- Partner organisations of Falling Walls
- Leading scientists in their field
Nominees
- PhD (late stage), Postdoctoral Researchers, Junior Professors, or researchers of a similar level who are in the last stages of their projects across all disciplines, including the arts, at academic and nonacademic research institutions worldwide.
- Research being done on a topic relating to one of the 17 SDGs by women in science and business.
- At the time the entry is made, the research project must be ongoing and active. Being in the planning or funding stages is not regarded as being a running research project.
- When submitting the application, the nominee must be at least 18 years old.
