This is to inform the genera public from every part of the world that the applications for the ITU Women in Cyber Mentorship Programme are now open for the interested candidates.
The third year of this program, Women in Cyber, aims to empower women to build skills for improved gender inclusion in cybersecurity, helping to address the workforce issues that are still present in the industry, such as open positions, a skills gap, and retention issues.
ITU Women in Cyber Mentorship Programme
Despite the fact that women make up only 24% of the workforce, the WiC initiative aims to address the gender and workforce gaps in cybersecurity in order to make the internet a safer place while also boosting public confidence in ICTs. The ITU-D Women in Cyber Program addresses the gender and workforce gaps in cybersecurity through trainings (on both soft-skills and technical topics), role-modeling, and mentorship. This program uses a targeted approach called Inspire, Train, and Empower. Between June and October 2023, all of the activities will be given online.
The Structure of The Programme
- INSPIRE: Four keynote webinars with prominent female cybersecurity experts as featured speakers highlight their professional journeys, encouraging role models and the idea that women make valuable contributors to the cybersecurity sector.
- TEACHING: Five technical and soft skill training courses that provide learners with knowledge and abilities for both professional and personal growth.
- EMPOWER: Two mentorship circle meetings with a live platform for participants to further discuss professional and personal development issues with high-level female cybersecurity professionals.
Eligibility
Interested women must meet the following conditions in order to be eligible to participate in the Women in Cyber Mentorship Programme:
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience at the junior level in cybersecurity or a desire to transition from another junior-level ICT or STEM employment into the sector.
- The presentation of the program will be in English. English proficiency is required of participants.
- A computer and stable internet connection is strongly encouraged.
- There are no age restrictions for this ITU Women in Cyber Mentorship Programme.
Note: Participants who want to join the WiC keynote Webinars that offer inspiration are not subject to the qualifying requirements.
Targeted Audience
Women living in Africa, Arab countries, Asia, and the Pacific are the only ones eligible for this implementation of the ITU Women in Cyber Mentorship Programme. The program’s regional participation cap intends to support women in their local cybersecurity groups.
- The following African nations were specifically targeted: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
- Arab States targeted countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, State of Palestine, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.
- Asian and Pacific nations that have been targeted: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao P.D.R., Mongolia, Thailand.
Note: The WiC inspirational keynote webinars will be accessible to everyone who registers via the specific link. However, only program participants who qualify for the trainings and mentorship circles are allowed to attend.
Application
- Seats for the program are limited.
- Zoom serves as the training and webinar delivery tool.
- The three components of the mentorship program—inspirational keynote webinars, trainings, and mentorship circles—must be registered for by the chosen participants.
- By the end of May 2023, those mentorship circle applicants who have been chosen will receive an email.
